Broadcasters installing Axia IP-Audio systems can now choose from an expanded range of Ethernet switches that include models from Hewlett-Packard’s ProCurve™ family of professional switchgear.
Eight HP switches augment previously certified Cisco Catalyst™ models, increasing to 30 the number of switches Axia clients can choose from. This wide range of approved equipment allows clients to tailor their network’s capabilities to budget and infrastructure requirements.
“Axia clients benefit from using standard Ethernet for audio routing because they can take advantage of new developments in switch technology — developments that are funded by the computer industry,” says Clark Novak, Axia’s marketing manager. “Other systems lock their users into proprietary router designs; designs their creators might not have the resources to develop further.”
Hewlett-Packard switches added to the list include:
- Five edge-switches from the ProCurve 2610 family, including the fanless ProCurve 2610-24, and ProCurve 2610-12/12PWR, 2610-24PWR, 2610-48 and 2610-48PWR models, for use in small-to-medium broadcast studios.
- Two core switches, the ProCurve 2900-24G and 2900-48G, for use in medium-sized facilities.
- The ProCurve 8212zl High Performance Core Switch for use in larger facilities where redundant operation is desired.
A complete list of switches approved for use in Axia networks is found at AxiaAudio.com/switches/.
More than 1,000 studios worldwide are now on-the-air with Axia IP-Audio systems, which enable broadcasters to build audio networks using standard switched Ethernet. Axia networks have a total system capacity of more than 10,000 audio streams, and can carry hundreds of digital stereo channels over a single CAT-6 cable.
