The first Axia-powered radio station in the Middle East has debuted
with the sign-on of the Qatar Foundation’s QF Radio (www.qfradio.org.qa)
in Doha, Qatar.
Equipment, provided by Axia distributors AVC Group, includes two
Element 2.0 radio consoles, along with mixing engines, Audio Nodes and
network administration software, as well as Omnia-6 audio processing
gear from Omnia Audio.
“The new Axia studio and other facility upgrades end Phase one of
this project,” says AVC’s Andrew McTeigue. “Additional Axia studios are
currently in the planning stage with deployment scheduled for early
2010.”
The flexibility of the Axia studio allows QF Radio to use it not only
for 24/7 broadcasting, but also to produce interviews for Internet and
FM broadcast, and for podcasts. A fiber-optic link delivers audio and
remote control to the FM transmitter, effectively extending the Axia
studio network to deliver 24-bit, uncompressed audio directly to the
transmitter site.
The Axia IP-Audio system allows broadcasters to build audio networks
of any size using standard switched Ethernet to connect a few rooms, or
an entire facility. Axia networks have a total system capacity of more
than 10,000 audio streams, and can carry hundreds of digital stereo
channels plus machine logic over a single CAT-6 cable, eliminating much
of the cost normally associated with wiring labor and infrastructure.
Additionally, broadcast equipment and playout systems from over
two-dozen Axia Partners connect directly to Axia networks using standard
Ethernet connections.
Element 2.0, the latest version of Axia's popular modular broadcast
console, is a best-seller with over 1,500 Axia consoles installed around
the world in just 6 short years.
