“The Voice,” WDAC-FM (www.wdac.com),
began operation as a technology pioneer: ‘DAC was one of the first
commercial FM stations in Pennsylvania’s Lancaster Valley when it
commenced broadcasting on December 13, 1959. Now, WDAC starts its sixth
decade at the forefront of another pioneering technology – IP-Audio –
with the choice of Axia IP consoles and routing equipment.
Axia gear purchased by WDAC includes two Element 2.0 consoles in 16-
and 12-position frame sizes, two Axia PowerStation integrated console
engines, plus assorted Audio Nodes for analog and AES I/O. The equipment
will be used in a rebuild of WDAC’s main air studio and production room;
the sale was made by Broadcasters General Store of Ocala, Florida.
Axia allows broadcasters to quickly and easily build audio networks
using switched Ethernet to connect a few rooms, or an entire facility.
Axia networks have a total system capacity of more than 10,000 audio
streams, and can carry hundreds of digital stereo channels (plus machine
logic and PAD) over a single CAT-6 cable, eliminating much of the cost
normally associated with wiring labor and infrastructure. Axia Element
2.0 radio consoles are a hit, with installations in over 2,000 studios
worldwide.
