In 2008, i105-107 (www.i105107.ie),
a “super-regional” FM station that serves central and northeastern
Ireland, signed on using Axia IP-Audio console and routing equipment.
Two years later, they've become repeat customers installing a second
round of Axia-powered studios.
Situated in Athlone, Ireland’s “broadcast center”, i105-107’s Axia
gear proved popular with talent and engineering. So much so that iRadio
decided to expand the Athlone studios to include sister station i102-104
(www.i102104.ie),
then operating from studios in Galway.
Andy Linton of Total Broadcast Consultants, Axia’s distributor in
Ireland, carried out the consolidation project. “As i105-107 had got on
so well with the Axia system in Athlone, it made sense to expand it,”
says Linton. “They decided to ditch the Klotz system previously in place
in Galway and instead grow their Axia system with another Element
console and PowerStation.”
Both iRadio stations (which together have 18 transmitters covering
half of Ireland) now have full use of the four Axia equipped studios,
any of which can go to air on either or both networks.
iRadio’s Axia routing network now includes four Element modular
consoles along with a variety of audio nodes, Studio Engines and
PowerStation integrated console engines. The system also makes use of
Axia iProFiler automated logging software, PathfinderPRO router
automation software, and networked Axia Studio Accessory Panels for
headphone and mic control.
The Axia IP-Audio system allows broadcasters to build audio networks
of any size using standard switched Ethernet to connect a few rooms, or
an entire facility. Axia networks have a total system capacity of more
than 10,000 audio streams, and can carry hundreds of digital stereo
channels plus machine logic over a single CAT-6 cable, eliminating much
of the cost normally associated with wiring labor and infrastructure.
Additionally, broadcast equipment and playout systems from over
two-dozen Axia Partners connect directly to Axia networks using standard
Ethernet connections.
